In the middle of August, I wrote briefly on one of my Instagram post captions about a Netflix movie I watched called Purple Heart. With Sofia Carson and Nicholas Galitzine starring in the main roles. There are so many reasons why I found this movie so exceptional, from the plot down to casting and the actual execution of the film. If you are a movie buff like me, you realise that this movie teaches you so much about life.
The movie is about a girl named Cassie who has diabetes and she comes from a working-class home and life. Cassie is unable to afford the medication to save her life, and she also desires to be a singer. However, her diabetes has been a blockade in living out her dreams.
Now we get to the marine soldier, Luke who has a very different and opposing view to Cassie. Cassie is a liberal, and Luke is a conservative, who has found himself in some trouble. This odd pairing then both find a way to work together for their own benefit and cut a deal despite their dislike of each other and decide to get married due to the benefits not only being married brings, but being married to a marine. Cassie got free healthcare, and Luke got extra money to help pay off some debts he owed.
Cassie (Sofia Carson) had a line, which I really loved and it was 'risk nothing, gain nothing.' It was actually even tattooed on her, and I loved it so much as it was the whole film's concept. Everything they did by getting married was a risk. It was a fraud, illegal, and not to mention they were complete opposites. But by risking the consequences they got married anyways and with that they gained so much more in life than they could ever imagine. Cassie got better with her health and Luke ended up becoming her muse, giving her inspiration in her songwriting and making a successful song with it. Luke's relationship with his father got rekindled and both of them gained this sense of purpose and belonging with each other.
Sometimes in life, two worlds collide, and a new world and life forms, one that could be so amazing and so wonderful, better than you could even manifest. It may not always be the case, but this movie showed that anything is possible if you just take that risk, or take that hesitant leap into the unknown.
Nobody knows the blessings that could potentially be unlocked due to having an open-mind and being open to understanding people. This can apply to making new friends, pursuing your dreams, passions, going on that trip you always wanted to take, starting the gym, or simply going to grab a coffee by yourself. There's so much to discover that could have such an impact on your life in a positive way, but if you don't at least try, you could miss out.
If you risk nothing, you will gain nothing.
